2016 rma network Conference
The rma network’s 22nd Annual Conference and Gala Dinner was held on the 29th July at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort on the Gold Coast. The rma network aims to provide its members with network facilities for the marketing of livestock and property and to increase their business skills and management performance.
An ongoing supporter of Pancare, members of The rma network came together to raise $50,000 to support the RMA scholarship and the Upper Gastrointestinal Registry. Over the last four years, The rma network and their members have donated approximately $285,000. “Like everyone, our members realise these horrible cancers can impact on family members and friends and the results can be devastating”, says rma network Director, David Nolan, “we have helped establish the rma network/Pancare Foundation Scholarship and Dr David Lau is the latest recipient”.
Pancare founder, Dr Mehrdad Nikfarjam attended the day, along with Pancare Foundation Patron of Hope and Support, Janet McCaughey who both presented talks on the night. Janet spoke about what it means to be a carer, her partner, Phil Sly’s cancer journey and the need for Pancare Foundation to support families and research, she received a standing ovation, “there wasn’t a dry eye in the room”, said David.
Dr Nikfarjam reiterated the importance of research and the need to support rural and regional families and the current statistics of pancreatic, liver, oesophageal and stomach – especially pancreatic cancer, which has a survival rate of 7%. We wish to thank The rma network for their ongoing support over the years and extend our thanks those who generously donated auction items, Emporio Armani, Coolmore and Recycal. We look forward to next year’s conference already!
