$400,000 raised for Pancare Foundation
The Pancare Foundation held its inaugural ‘Festival of Sports’ event on the 20th November at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, raising over $400,000.
Attendees included supporters from Australian businesses, media and sports personalities, who contributed towards raising much needed funds to increase survival rates of people affected by pancreatic, liver, biliary, oesophageal and stomach cancers.
Through the generosity of these businesses, people affected by these cancers were able to share in the experience of this exciting sporting fundraiser.
The event was made possible by generous sponsorship from, Budget, Ladbrokes, Nowicki Carbone and Recycal, as well as the following companies (in alphabetical order) for their donated auction items, Budget, Godolphin, Kirks Wine Bar, Jayco, Rockpool Bar & Grill, Swettenham Stud, Treasury Wine Estates, Victoria Racing Club and Vinery Stud.
The event came just in time for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, held in November and shed light on the need for funding for cancer research programs.
Two of the RMA Network’s auctioneers donated their time to help create an exciting atmosphere where auction items included, a wine weekend for four at Magill Estate donated by Treasury Wine Estates; a signed cricket bat by Sir Vivian Richards, Joel Garner and Michael Holding donated by Budget; dinner for 10 at Kirks Wine Bar donated by Ian Curley; home dinner for 10 by Rockpool chef donated by Neil Perry; Tour de France yellow jersey and racing bike signed by Simon Gerrans donated by Jacyo Caravans; weekend of a lifetime at the Tour Down Under donated by Jayco Caravans; service fee for racehorse, Brazen Beau donated by Darley; lunch at Swettenham Stud for 30 people donated by Adam Sangster; service fees for racehorses Casino Prince and Husson donated by Vinery Stud; 225L Wolf Blass wine barrel donated by Treasury Wine Estates and a lunch for 6 at Guineas Day at Caulfield Racecourse donated by Victorian Racing Club.
Guests were treated to a Q&A panel of sports personalities, hosted by Drew Morphett, including racing giants, Gerry Harvey and David Hayes, AFL legends, Denis Pagan and Robert Walls, cycling standouts, Gerry Ryan, Phil Liggett and Simon Gerrans and cricket greats, Malcolm Gray and David Hussey.
Pancare CEO, Angelia Dixon said, “We have had incredible support from many generous sponsors and donators, with funds raised assisting Pancare to implement strategies to increase survival rates and support patients and their families affected by these cancers.”
Pancreatic cancer is the 5th most common cause of cancer death in Australia and by 2030 it is likely to become the second most common cause of death from cancer .
Pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of 6.1% – one of the lowest rates of all cancers. Increased funding and awareness is needed to increase survival rates for people currently affected by these cancers and for future generations.
