Meet Our Board

Claire Higgins (Acting Chair)

Claire Higgins is an Australian based professional Director. She is the Chair of the Country Fire Authority in Victoria, REI Superannuation Pty Ltd and NorthWest Healthcare Property Management Ltd. Claire is also a Director of healthcare companies and several Victorian Government Statutory Boards. Formerly the Chair of Barwon Health, Claire has also had extensive executive experience with major Australian and Belgian corporates.

Claire has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting, Economics and Commercial Law) from The University of Melbourne and is a present Fellow at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the Institute of Public Administration Australia.


Rod Cairnduff (Treasurer)

Rod Cairnduff is a CPA with more than 25 years’ experience working across the finance sector. For the past six years Rod has run his own firm while serving on the board of a number of not-for-profits, giving valuable advice and direction in regard to financial sustainability and longevity.

Dr Mehrdad Nikfarjam (Founder)

Dr Mehrdad Nikfarjam is one of the country’s leading liver, pancreas and biliary surgeons with extensive training and education, gained in both Australia and the USA. His belief has always been that no cancer patient should be denied an opportunity for the best available care.

Douglas Rowe

Douglas Rowe’s career in recycling commenced in 1977 at his families business in Victoria. Having gained several years’ experience in the metals industry, he undertook a management role with the Poseidon Group of Companies before moving to the mining, mineral and metal oxide area of business.

Douglas was the founder of Southern Rocycling, the metal and plastic recycling business in 1992, and Ecocycle Industries, the silver and mercury recycling facilities in 1996. The businesses were sold in 2007 and in early 2008 Douglas became the CEO of this public listed company before leaving in May 2010.

He started Recycal in late 2010 and took over CMA Ecocycle, his old silver and mercury business in late 2013. The businesses have sites in all Capital Cities and his family is heavily involved in the business with him. Douglas spends many hours each week working with those less fortunate and is involved in a number of charities and mentoring programs.


David Trussler

David Trussler has worked in the Advertising industry for 30 years and has been a major shareholder partner in two successful Melbourne agencies. In 1987 he co-founded respected Melbourne agency Words at Work Advertising.

He has a keen interest in the retail market and has worked on some of Australia’s largest and most successful retail brands including The Good Guys, Duncans Liquor, Mitre 10, Thrifty-Link Hardware as well as a host of other brands including ACI, CSR, John Deere, Pilot Pens, Electrolux and Dulux. A passionate proponent of marketing strategy, his qualifications include a Bachelor of Business (Distinction), and a Graduate Diploma in Marketing. David is also a CPA and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
